How you use newly learned concepts in your daily practice

Assignment task:

Chapter 5 opens with the following quote, "The idea that children need to be taught physical movement skills and concepts may seem odd. We assume children develop physically on their own, provided they receive adequate nutrition and have safe opportunities to move around in the environment...it is a mistake to view the development of children's physical skills as being purely maturational in the early childhood years."

Without losing sight of the importance of open-ended and uninterrupted play experiences for children, we can often still envision our role (as educators) in areas of development like language and literacy, Cognitive (mathematics), or Cognitive (science). It seems when we think of physical development, our roles in supporting children are not necessarily as clear.

Directions: After reading chapter 5 of The Intentional Teacher, answer the following question in 3-5 paragraphs, consisting of a minimum of 5 sentences each and no more than 8 sentences. Type directly on this form and change the color of the text to highlight your work.

What are 3 things you learned from reading chapter 5 that changed the way you think about supporting children in physical development? How will you use these newly learned concepts in your daily practice/interactions with children?
