How might a therapist find one or the other useful

Problem

As an exercise in critical thinking, the stages of grief as outlined by Kubler-Ross brought to mind the Transtheoretical Model of change (often used in treating addictions). While the two models are used for entirely different purposes, what are some of the similarities and how might a therapist find one or the other useful when conceptualizing treatment for an individual who is facing death? I've included a brief description of the stages of change model.
