Problem
Informatics is critical to the provision of high quality, safe patient care in the clinical setting. To ensure such care is provided, two Acts, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) requires health care organizations to demonstrate 'meaningful use'.
Additionally, an EMR Adoption Model was created by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) to classify the level of EMR capability and gauge the implementation and progress EMR solutions and functionalities within organizations. Levels range from partial systems to completely paperless settings. This structure allows comparison among facilities as they strive to implement electronic records and demonstrate meaningful use. Stages range from 0-7.
