One of the main ideas presented throughout the video is the concept that individuals need to work on not only stopping the addiction but also on understanding the true causes of the addiction. Dr. Mike Carey explains how addiction is a way for the body and mind to cope with pain, trauma, or other emotional issues. As a result, the only way for individuals to fully recover is not only with the power of will but also with the power of self-awareness, honesty, and a desire to change the way they think and react to difficult situations.

Another key concept presented throughout the video is the concept that individuals need to be held accountable for their recovery; however, they also need help with the recovery and cannot do it alone. This is where support systems play a large role in the recovery of the individuals. As I was reading through the material presented on the video, it caused me to reflect on the reality that it is often difficult for individuals to work through the true causes of addiction. As a result, individuals may be fully aware that they need help with the addiction; however, working through the true causes of the addiction is extremely difficult. This is where support systems play a large role in the recovery of the individuals.
