Findings in all of the social science literature on divorce

Problem: One of the most persistent findings in all of the social science literature on divorce is that there is often a loss of contact between fathers and children after the divorce. In fact, fathers will often remarry and take more interest in the children of the remarriage (even stepchildren) than in their own biological children who remain with the original wife. What explanations can you think of for this? How might our culture's frequent dismissal of the father's role help explain this occurrence? What effects might this have on the biological children in the short and long term?
