Explain the empirical method of acquiring knowledge

Assignment:

Preparation:

Read the Theogony of Hesiod (the Ancient Greek creation myth) I've linked, as well as the Science & Creationism reading - both of which are in the Scientific Epistemology Assignment folder. Then watch the Crash Course video I've linked on World Mythology. You also might want to brush up on the creation myth you are most familiar with - for many of you this will be the story of creation from Genesis, but for others this may be something else, whichever you are most familiar with is fine. If you are unfamiliar with any creation myth, pick one you think is interesting.

Assignment:

1. Explain the difference between the empirical (scientific) method of acquiring knowledge about the world and the method used by the Ancient Greeks (found in the Theogony of Hesiod).

2. Explain the difference between the empirical (scientific) method of acquiring knowledge about the world and the method found in the creation myth you are most familiar with - or the one you chose if you were unfamiliar with any.

3. What environmental, cultural and historical conditions shaped the religious/doctrinal understandings of the creation of the world that differ from those surrounding the formation of the scientific method?
