POSITION SUMMARY:

The Clinical Informatics Specialist role supports goals of the organization by managing and maximizing the reporting on clinical, operational measures. This role provides analytic support to follow clinical outcomes for proper disease management and population health management. The successful candidate is committed to Quality Improvement as a leading driver of organizational change in a healthcare environment.  The objective for this role is to develop innovative technical solutions using best practice approaches, including problem solving and database maintenance. In addition, this role supports the NextGen EMR to enable a state of the art clinical documentation system for the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Analyzes, develops, and maintains computer applications, procedures and other systems that satisfies the needs of the user departments.

2. Analyzes and develops necessary design work, including testing and documentation.

3. Reviews, evaluates and implements requests from user departments.

4. Oversees computer applications to ensure proper use and security.

5. Analyzes problems, determines cause and initiates corrective action and works with the Help Desk system.

6. Develops clear and concise documentation, instruction manuals.

7. Provides in-service and other forms of continuing education.

8. Develops advanced level reports using the reporting software in the EHR, Microsoft Excel,Crystal Reports and external reporting software packages.

9. Stays current with technology through seminars, educational opportunities, trade magazines, etc.

10. Has a working knowledge of all software modules of the EHR, and hardware troubleshooting.

11. Maintains a high level of interaction with all clinical areas to continually enhance/improve patient care.

12. Shares on-call duties with other individuals within Information Services.

13.  Ability to interact effectively with colleagues, staff, administration

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

• Five (5) years of experience in outpatient clinical information systems in implementation and support, as well as specific clinical experience in nursing, respiratory care, occupational/physical therapy, or pharmacy Professional Experience/Educational Requirements

•  Master’s degree in healthcare or clinical informatics or related field.

Certification/Licensure:

• One of the following licenses is required:

o Registered Nurse (RN) licensure with the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of CT

o  Nurse Practitioner (NP, PNP, NNP, FNP) licensure with the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of CT Occupational Therapy (OT) or Physical Therapy (PT) licensure with the Executive Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners.
