These may be an individual task, such as reading some text or watching a video and documenting your reaction to it, responding to some discussion points on the discussion forum or participating in a ‘live online classroom’ session. The main aim of formative activities is that you receive feedback on your contribution which will help you in preparation for your final module assessment(s). There is opportunity during the module to engage in formative assessment; this is related to the summative assessment for the module. As part of this module you will be advised to complete several aspects of self-assessment following individual sessions.

Will be presented in the form of a consultancy report evidencing the gathering and critical analysis of intelligence and how this informs the development of HRM strategy process.

Assignment Specification:

Strategic leadership occurs in all organisations and is increasingly complex due to globalisation and a myriad of ethical considerations. The successful leader is able to synthesise varied knowledge, draw conclusions, and exercise judgement appropriate for a particular context or situation. To facilitate this synthesis and provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate these skills you are to critically analyse your own organisation or another company you are interested in researching. Specifically, you will critically assess how ethics, gender, and strategic leadership theories are addressed in the new post GFC environment.

In a world of so many strategic leadership approaches and theories, how does one identify and implement the best leadership approach for her or his particular leadership situation and context?  How does gender impact the way leaders are perceived, particularly in a high-stakes situation? How does a leader determine an ethical course of action?

In this project, you will consider these questions and provide answers based on the theories, approaches, and other information you acquire throughout the module as well as your own research. Identify the key issues in the organisation and:

• produce a research-related literature review
• undertake a full company analysis and discussion
• Summarise and demonstrate understanding of related literature and company analysis
• Discuss specific leadership theories or approaches that would be appropriate in your particular organisation and explain why.

Be sure to cite and reference examples from the module textbook and journal articles presented in this module as well as resources you identify from your own research. Your submissions should demonstrate critical analysis of the topic and a coherent application of related theories.

Assessment Criteria:

In completing the assessments, you need to demonstrate all of the following skills:

• Application of academic concepts
• Critical awareness and analysis
• Synthesis and presentation of key ideas
• Evaluation of complex matters
• Integration of ideas and practice in a cross disciplinary manner
