Does this contract have to be in writing to be enforceable

Custer’s VP of Operations, Dave McCombs, recently tried to lease some space in the new strip mall near the interstate. He sent an email agreeing to lease the space at $50 a square foot for three years. The email contains his name at the bottom which he says he typed there intending this to be his signature. Does this contract have to be in writing to be enforceable and does it meet the requirements under the Statute of Frauds?
