Problem: Writing thoughts according to the following: I do think ADHD is over diagnosed in the United States; although ADHD is a complex neurodevelopment disorder that requires extensive assessment for diagnosis so to simply say "Yes ADHD is over diagnosed in the Untied Sates" is a simplified response to a much more complex answer. I think ADHD is over diagnosed in todays society due to numerous external factors such as media influence, cultural influence, societal influence, misinterpretation of symptoms/behaviors, societal pressures, and also the lack of extensive assessments. I believe social media has lead to the semantic satiation of ADHD, many people tend to self diagnose due to these media influences. I believe that media, specifically social media has played a negative impact in peoples misunderstanding of the neurodevelopment disorder itself. The media has wrongfully depicted the definition of ADHD as a whole an in doing so it has allowed for the misconception of symptoms and behaviors. In regards to assessments required to diagnose ADHD many assessments have been criticized for not being comprehensive and this is supported by the recent large increase of ADHD diagnosis's in the United States.
