Discussion about the neurodevelopmental disorder

Problem: Writing thoughts according to the following: I worked at a mental health clinic doing basic skills training with a number of clients, many of whom had a neurodevelopmental disorder. More specifically, I worked with a ten-year-old boy who had ADHD, along with a few other mental health conditions. About two-thirds of children with ADHD have at least one current comorbid disorder (Corcoran & Walsh, 2020), and I found that to be the case with most of the clients I worked with. Part of my job was to teach him basic living skills, social skills, and coping skills. He also used a combination of other treatments to help with his ADHD, including medication, cognitive-behavioral treatment, and school-based services. He struggled with impulsivity and following directions, especially when it was something he did not want to do. Through this experience, I learned about and witnessed the increased challenges this child faced due to his ADHD symptoms. I also learned how many other factors, including comorbid disorders, a history of trauma, and even attachment difficulties, can play a role in the expression of ADHD (Corcoran & Walsh, 2020). Working with him taught me patience, adaptability, and creativity in order to find what worked for him. I also witnessed the strengths, talents, and resilience he had despite his obstacles. Overall, I learned that individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders really benefit from a personalized, strength-based, and adaptable. Need Assignment Help?
