Problem: Response to this discussion
The Not-for-profit that I have chosen is United Way Worldwide. United Health is a nonprofit organization that is in every state and has several within a state to ensure that every county has a United Way connected to it. United Way is also global, as it has several agencies around the world. United Way Worldwide is governed by a worldwide board of trustees and an overall CEO of the organization who deals with providing leadership, policy guidance, and creation & Oversight of the different branches of the organization. This board of trustees also has directors and staff who work daily within the other lower agencies that are within the states and around the world. This model is mostly compared to a Policy Governance Model or the Carver Model. This model forms a complete governance system that enables boards to provide strategic leadership in shaping the future for their organizations (Goverancecoach, 2026). I chose this classification because the organization is so large and has so many agencies under it that it requires a governance structure that prioritizes oversight rather than direct involvement in daily operations.
I believe that this is a highly effective model for an organization the size of the United Way worldwide organization. The organization has an agency in every area of each state within the United States and has agencies all over the world. This model is important as they can be in the offices every day and put that role to their directors of agencies and their staff. If the power were heavily vested in the agencies, then it would be hard to implement policies and regulations when all of the smaller agencies other than them all have different policies and regulations.
