Discussion about pateint having down syndrome and asthma

Problem:

Chandra is in her early twenties, has down syndrome and asthma. Over time she experienced declining mental health and increasing behaviours of concern that her family found difficult to manage. She attended a day program several times a week and still had contact with her siblings (who were not living at home). Over time, her siblings visited less and less due to her aggression and unbalanced mental health. Chandra has been living in Banksia Disability Care for a few weeks now. Chandra likes playing sport, especially team sports, where she can interact with other people. Her favourite sport is netball, and she likes to go and watch the senior team play. Chandra is currently in a social team but wants to play in a competitive team. The issue for Chandra is she is very obese and can only play for a few minutes before she needs a rest or her puffer. On this particular day, Chandra has already been off the court 3 times before being told that she won't play out the rest of the game. She is forced to watch from the sidelines. When Hannah checks up on her after the game, she is disturbed to see blood coming from under Chandra's skirt. When Hannah asks Chandra if she needs to go to the toilet and if she need any sanitary pads, Chandra lifts the hem of her skirt to show the cuts she has made with the ring top from a soft drink can. Chandra also admits to hurting herself sometimes when she is disappointed or angry and is left out of activities. Chandra wants to be involved. Triggers of Chandra behaviours of concern
