Assignment task:
a. Two advantages to practice evaluation in social work is that it can support clinicians in evaluating the effectiveness of their interventions, as well as create stability in competencies as evaluations offer room for improvements (Davis, et al., 2015). The disadvantages of practice evaluation is that it takes time to complete and participate in, as well as social workers can lack the training and agency support to complete evaluations.
b. My agency typically uses informative-interactive tool processing, where there are weekly supervision meetings as well as interdisciplinary meetings. The benefits of this practice evaluation are that it is more of a cognitive approach, and it is easier for clinicians to be trained and adjusted to it (Davis, et al., 2015). The weaknesses of the method include room for bias from the clinician and/or supervisor.
c. My agency could benefit from rapid-reassessment evaluations, so the clinicians can have an understanding of the impact of their direct interventions used with clients they work with. In my program at my agency, we work with adults with serious mental illness. This would be beneficial as long as it is continually monitored and the clinicians are trained appropriately. Using this tool and emphasizing evidence-based practice should lead to reinforcement of competence, skills, and continued education for social workers (Rubin & Parrish, 2007).
d. From my knowledge, there are no single-system designs being used at my agency. I think it could be beneficial to my agency to use a standardized instrument in evaluating the interventions clinicians are using in order to ensure the client is improving and offer areas for change. Using a single-system design at my agency could help eliminate bias, and make it easier for clinicians to monitor client success.
