Discussion about children during the art activity

Problem: One morning Paul and two girls are assigned to the kitchen area. A girl picks up a toy cell phone. Paul shoves her and grabs it from her. "Give it back!" she says, but Paul ignores her. She tells Teacher Jane, who suggests she use a different toy cell phone. She does but mutters, "I want the green one. I had it first." Paul then snatches the second phone from her. She shrieks, "Hey! Now he got that one!"

Teacher Jane tells Paul: Give me the phones.

Paul shoves them in his pockets: No, I'm playing with 'em.

Teacher Jane: Well, you aren't anymore. Hand them over.

Sighing, Paul gives them to Teacher Jane, who gives one to the girl and keeps the other. Paul sits in a chair, huffing and glaring angrily at Teacher Jane until it is snack time. At the snack table, the girl says, "Don't nobody like Paul. He's always getting everybody else in trouble. He's never nice." Paul shoots her a mean look but says nothing. Other children nod in agreement with the girl. Few children voluntarily play with Paul; when they do, it often ends in an argument or physical tussle.

During an art activity, four children are gathered around a table with a bin of crayons in the center. Paul keeps pulling the bin toward himself. The other children then pull it toward the center of the table again. To end the tug-o-war, Teacher Jane removes the bin, frowning at the children. Paul then begins shoving the table toward the other children. The other children shove the table back at Paul. One of the boys says, "You better stop, or I'm gonna punch you!" Paul begins to cry.
