Problem: A semicomatose male was brought to the ED. His initial blood test results included a ph of 7.25, a glucose of 687mg/dl, BUN of 19 mg/dl, creatinine of 2.1mg/dl. the patient was given isotonic saline insulin K+ Cl- and 50g/l of dextrose. 24 hours later the glucose was 205, BUN 18, and creatinine 0.95. The physician treating the patient doesnt believe the patient was in renal failure. since the creatninine is normal now and the bun is only slightly elevated
