Discuss a time you personally used one of the fallacies

Problem

Using logical fallacies in your research papers is something to avoid at all costs. When you use such fallacies, you make it clear to your readers that you are an unreliable (and possibly unethical) writer.

The best way to avoid using logical fallacies is to identify the ones you are most likely to use in your personal life. You don't have to be embarrassed that you have used them; you just have to work hard to avoid using them in all contexts--at school, at work, and at home.

For this problem, then, be sure you're clear on the definitions of each fallacy: 5-logical-fallacies.pdfDownload 5-logical-fallacies.pdf

In addition, review the examples (all taken from The Simpsons) that appear in this module under "Logical Fallacies: Some Examples."

Then, discuss a time you personally used one of the fallacies AND describe a time when you watched someone else use one (you can reference something you witnessed in person or just something you saw on TV). Be specific, give details, and explain why you think you AND the person you observed made such a rhetorical choice, regardless of whether it was intentional or not. Finally, respond to the post of at least one of your classmates to exchange experiences about logical fallacies.
