Describe automobile theft

Assignment:

Vehicles are valuable property that people rely on every day to transport them to work, school, and recreational activities. Yet, they are among the least protected types of property owned.

Answer the following:

  • Imagine you are an officer who has been tasked with speaking at a community forum dealing with a recent uptick in motor vehicle theft.  Briefly explain some things that you can relay to the audience regarding reducing the chance of motor vehicle victimization.   To assure them that the police are taking the problem seriously, what are some steps that the police could take?
  • What role should lawmakers play in reducing vehicle theft? For example, should laws be passed that all vehicles must include technology that tracks their location at all times? Should insurance companies refuse to pay out if the theft can be attributed to owner negligence (e.g. leaving the keys in the cars, leaving the vehicle unsecured etc…)?  Why or why not?
