Case study:
Mandy is 21 years old and has come to your office for help. She was referred to you by a plastic surgeon who is requesting a thorough mental health evaluation and a minimum of a year of therapy before she agrees to conduct sexual reassignment surgery on Mandy. Mandy has been diagnosed with gender dysphoria since she was 7 years old. She was born biologically male but developed persistent cross gender associations since the age of 4. She started living as a woman since she was 18 years old and is now interested in transitioning fully into a woman.
Answer the following items:
What would be the information you would need to know for your assessment of Mandy? What would be your goal with Mandy? Develop your treatment plan for Mandy. What would you look for to determine whether she is ready for this transition? What guidelines would you use in the treatment of Mandy? Is there anything published that you can use?
