Problem:
Using evidence-based interventions and best practices is fundamental to building an effective school counseling program. The evidence-based practices and interventions utilized by school counselors increase the effectiveness of school counseling programs. By using evidence-based interventions and best practices, school counselors help build accountability within schools and enhance school counseling programs. ASCA's National Model guides school counselors in making data and research based decisions as opposed to making decisions based on personal experience and opinion or intuition. Also, school counselors must advocate for the school counseling program with other stakeholders and data on program results such as student academic achievement, attendance and behavior are fundamental to the argument for continued program funding and support.
