As the textbook states, it is helpful to know how emotions influence your thinking and behavior. The purpose of the exercise below is to build self awareness.

Part 1: For this exercise, write one ending to each of the following statements:

a.  “When someone accuses me of a wrongdoing, I usually …”

b.  “When I feel frustrated, my response is …”

c.  “When I am fearful, I …”

d.  “My response to a lack of recognition is …”

e.  “When I am disappointed, my response is to …”

Part 2: Answer and reflect upon the following four questions:

1. What are your thoughts when looking over your answers? Elaborate.

2. Which answers identified things you may want to change in your life?  What are those things? Elaborate.

3. Identify and elaborate on any changes you would like to make in your emotional style. Emotional styles are explained on pages 197 and 198 of the textbook.
