Introduction to a System

The term system is derived from the Greek work systema, which means an organized relationship among functioning units or components. A system exists because it is designed to achieve one or more objectives. There are several definitions for the word system. Elias M. Awad defines system as an orderly   rouping of interdependent components linked together according to a plan to achieve a specific objective. The components of a library system are its collection, circulation system, catalogue system, classification system, etc. Each of these components is interdependent and linked together with the specific objective to provide the right information to users in the shortest time.
