Introduction to Soldering
For it, electric irons are usually employed on small armatures and gas irons on the larger ones. The size of the iron that is employed depends on the size of the commutator. Leads are soldered to the commutator through the means of soldering iron or torch. The process of soldering is described as follows.

To avoid the solder from flowing down the back of the commutator and thus causing short circuits, raise one end of the armature. To avoid the solder from flowing from one bar to other, the iron is held as displayed in the below diagram. Extra flux is wiped out after the soldering is finished.
