1) Disconnect the supply cables at the motor's terminal box, separate the motor from the driven machine, detach the foundation bolts or nuts and eliminate the motor to the maintenance shop.

2) Take out the external fan covers, canopies, heat exchanger or other fitments.

3) Dismantle the motor without employing the excessive force, and without the hammer blows.   Care should be taken to observe that the rotor does not touch the stator winding overhangs. If feasible do not open cartridge bearing housings.

4) Clean dust, dirt, oil and grit from every part of the machine with the help of blower, compressed air hose, bellows or brushes and then wash with petrol to which a few drops of lubricating oil have been added. The windings may be cleaned by means of carbon tetra-chloride. Care being taken to avoid its application to slip rings and brushes.

5) Perform visual inspection of all parts for wear or damage, replace worn out or damaged parts.

 6) Calculate insulation resistance. If low dry out the windings, until correct values are acquired. If essential re-enamel or re-varnish all the winding and internal parts apart from the stator bore and rotor iron. Dry rotor and stator winding carefully.

7) Reassemble motor with no using any excessive force. Ensure that machine leads are on the correct terminals and everything is well tightened.

8) Test the concentricity of the air gap by the air gap holes. Make sure that rotor can rotate freely. Any complexity in rotating the rotor or not usual noise should be taken as sign of interference among stationary and moving parts. Investigate this and remove the cause of the trouble.

9) Test insulation resistance again.

10) Recommission the motor.
