Introduction to Half Coil Winding

The coils having a pair of poles phase groups within adjacent poles are concentric. These coils within two adjacent poles form one coil group and so there is one coil group each pair of poles.

If the 1st phase, say R or A phase begins at slot no.1, the Y or B phase should begin at 1200/300 = 4 slots away that is, in slot (1 + 4 = ) 5, and the B or C phase should begin at (5 + 4 =) 9.

The winding have to be connected among alternate North and South poles. First, R or A phase winding is begun. If one side of the coil is placed in slot number 1, the another side of the coil have to be placed in slot number 8, that is , the last coil side of phase R or A phase within the next pole. The coil side in slot number 2 have to be connected to the last but one coil side of similar phase within the next pole, that is, slot number 7, in this case.

Now, the two coils created through coil sides placed in the slots number 1, 8 and 2, 7 belong to similar phase, and are concentric with each other. They form a coil group.

The standard rule for connecting jointly the coils in a coils group is that the end wire of one coil has to be connected to the start of the next coil in the group and so on. This is completed in order which the emfs of the coils in a coil group, add. Another coil groups for the remaining phases.
