Mechanism of respiration

Mechanism of respiration:

Oxidation of glucose includes following four different stages –

1. Glycolysis,
2. Oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvic acid,
3.  Krebs cycle and
4.  Electron transport chain.

In the very first three stages, the hydrogen acceptor Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide–oxidized create (NAD+) and Flavin adenine dinucleotide – oxidized create (FAD+) are decreased to NADH2 and FADH2 correspondingly. Both of the coenzymes, (NAD+) and (FAD+) work as hydrogen carriers from respiratory substrate to electron transport chain, in which H+ and electrons are transferred to oxygen to create water. This electron transport results in the release of energy that is employed to phosphorylate ADP to ATP. Therefore, the electron transport chain reactions are considered to as oxidative phosphorylation.
