Hypogyny:

Whenever the thalamus is convex or lengthened, the carpel engages the top most position on it. The other floral members (i.e., sepals, petals, and stamens) are positioned beneath them.  This mode of arrangement is termed as hypogyny. The flower is explained as hypogynous. Epigyny:

Whenever the thalamus is cup shaped, the lower portion of the ovary is located at the bottom of the cup and also fused with the internal wall of thalamus. The other floral members come out to be inserted upon the ovary. This mode on arrangement is termed as epigyny. Then the flower is stated to be epigynous. The ovary is said to be inferior. Example: Asteraceae, Rubiaceae, Cucurbitaceae, and so on.

Perigyny:

In this situation the receptacle is flat or a little cup-shaped. The carpels are located at its centre and other floral members are inserted on its margin. This mode of arrangement is termed as perigyny. The flower is termed as perigynous. In this situation, the ovary is still explained as half inferior. Example: Fabaceae, Rosaceae and so on.
