Exons and Introns

Exons and Introns:

In Prokaryotes usually, the genes are continuous segments of DNA taking place collinearly without interruption. However in Eukaryotes, the genes on the DNA strand contain coding regions termed as exons interrupted by non-coding DNA segments that do not take genetic information termed as introns. This led to the notion of interrupted genes or discontinuous genes. These genes while generating m-RNA will first form a primary transcript that will then cut off the introns to form the functional m-RNA and this is termed as splicing.
