It involves three groups, namely, hyphae are septate, vegetative body is dikaryophase. It involves the extremely evolved fungi. This class got its name from basidium, the club shaped structure made at the tip of the reproductive hypha. All basidium bears four basidiospores at its tip. Big reproductive structures or fruiting bodies are termed as basidiocarps and are generated in this class of fungi. Common illustrations for basidiomycetes involve toadstools, mushrooms, puffballs and bracket fungi. The mycelia of this class are of two kinds that are, Primary and secondary. Primary mycelium multiplies by oidia, conidia similar to spores and pycnidiospores. Distinct sex organs are not present. Fusion takes place among two basidiospores or among two hyphal cells of primary mycelia. Advanced forms of basidiomycetes generate fruiting bodies are termed as basidiocarps. Fruiting bodies differ in size from small microscopic to big ones.
