Absorption of water takes place in plants via roots. The zone of water absorption in root is around 20-200mm from the root tip and it is the root hair zone. The eventual units of water absorption are the root hairs. Root hair is a unicellular tubular extension bound by an outer cell wall followed by plasma membrane, covering the protoplasm inside. The cytoplasm of the root hair comprises a large central vacuole filled with cell sap.
The absorption of water by plants occurs due to the procedure, osmosis that is a passive diffusion.
