Neuromuscular synapse
What do you mean by the neuromuscular synapse?
Expert
Neuromuscular synapse is defined as the structure through which neural impulse passes from axon of motor neuron to the muscle cell. Such structure is also called as the neuromuscular junction, or motor end plate. Since in the nervous synapse, the axonal terminal membrane liberates the neurotransmitter acetylcholine within the cleft between the two cells. Acetylcholine then binds to the specific receptors of muscle membrane, dependent sodium channels then open and the depolarization of muscle membrane begins. Then the impulse is transmitted to the sarcoplasmic reticulum which releases the calcium ions into the sarcomeres of myofibrils hence, triggering the contraction.
