Tripod is a universal term for a stand or support with the three legs. It is frequently used to support camera gun, or to place beyond Bunsen burner in a science lab to heat/boil anything. In science laboratory, metal gauze is positioned on the top of it to provide support to a beaker (An iron ring clamp with ring stand can frequently be used instead and an iron ring permits for easy height adjustment).
