Students must understand when it is appropriate to use surveillance and which types are suitable during certain situations. As the field-operations team reviews the intelligence report, the team must decide what type of surveillance would be most useful. Depending on the complexity of the intelligence report, choosing surveillance can be challenging. In seeking out surveillance, budgets, manpower, and other resources available to the field-operations team must be considered. When selecting which surveillance actions to employ, the priority consideration is the safety of the team. Another question to ask is will the surveillance produce results or is there a high chance that it will? The team members need to spend their resources wisely and ensure they get the most bang for their buck.
