Throughout the day in the dry habitats guard cells become flaccid and stomata close; alongside carbon dioxide is prohibited to pass to participate in diurnal photosynthesis. Some plants from dry areas resolve this problem by the method of nocturnal carbon dioxide fixation. At night, when water loss by the transpiration is lower, stomata open, carbon dioxide enters and it is stored in the parenchymal tissues. Throughout the day the stored gas is mobilized to be employed in the photosynthesis.
