News Team Publication : Broadcast News Publication

Your news team publication for this week will be in the form of scripts for television and radio. In order to work on the publication together as a group, you will be using Google Docs.

Each group member will insert his or her own story script as a different page in the document. Each editor will then edit the script he or she has been assigned. It is important the writers of the scripts also save copies of their original scripts in a Word document to be submitted along with the final team scripts in Waypoint.

This will ensure that the student's original work is also considered in the final grade. Remember, that editors have a choice of what to include and what to remove from the final work. The News Director will complete the first page of the script packages once all the scripts have been loaded. Each student must upload the following three documents to Waypoint:

? A PDF copy of the feedback to the writer of the script the student was assigned to edit

? The Peer Editing Checklist for Scripts for the script each student was assigned to edit

? A PDF copy of the final news team's broadcast script

? A copy of the original script the student wrote in a PDF document

? A copy of the for the script each student was assigned to edit

? A copy of the final news team's broadcast script

For individual broadcast scripts, students must

? Write about a topic that is currently in the news for television and radio.

? Summarize facts and/or statistics that are relevant to the broadcast news story.

? Compare two opposing opinions about the topic one of which must be an original interview to support the story.

? Provide proper attribution for all sources of information included in each broadcast script.

? Incorporate at least two visual elements to enhance the television script and audio details to enhance the radio script.

For script editing assignments, students must

? Utilize the Peer Editing Checklist for Scripts to evaluate their peer's work

The news team scripts

? Must be created using Google Docs and saved as a PDF and uploaded to Waypoint.

? Must include scripts from each news team member.

? Must adhere to the conventions of writing scripts for broadcast news media.

Post your scripts! After finalizing your scripts, the News Director should load to the Ashford Café so that we can all explore the various styles and creative elements that each team included to reach the same audience.
