Wuthering Heights is a classic work of literature that matches with various elements of Victorian literature particularly through the theme of love. Romantic love takes several forms in Wuthering Heights but primarily the love revolves between the book's main characters; Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff. The subject of love fits in with segments of Victorian writing on the grounds that the book was composed amid the Victorian Age in Britain.

Foremost, the love between Catherine and Heathcliff resembles elements of love in the Victorian age because love during this era was consigned with courtship. For instance, Catherine and Heathcliff would run away with each other as complete savages whenever they had the chance (Brontë 36). They knew they would be punished for their actions, but their love was strong enough to let them suffer the consequences. However, Catherine and Heathcliff's love affair was a twisted and doomed love affair that reveals how obsessive love could also be a harmful force. The love they shared was an addiction. According to Wikipedia, an addiction is "a brain disorder characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli despite adverse consequences." The pair did not care for anything apart from their love for each other to the point that Catherine would disobey orders and go along with Heathcliff. She would have absolute fits that would embarrass not only herself but her husband as well. Furthermore, Heathcliff's love for Catherine was problematic because his jealousy over Edgar's relations with Catherine led him to throw hot sauce (Brontë 46). His adult life revolved around his revenge to everyone who physically and emotionally abused him. "I might have the privilege of flinging Joseph off the highest gable and painting the house-front with Hindley's blood." (Bronte 56) He wanted to prove to Catherine and Hindley that he was good enough after hearing the conversations from years prior.

Another element synonymous with the Victorian age was the glaring socioeconomic differences between the rich and poor. The socioeconomic difference led to a problematic love affair between Catherine and Heathcliff. Heathcliff was a gypsy child who was mistreated by everyone especially Hindley.

The role of women during Britain's industrialization era is another element of the Victorian period depicted in Wuthering Heights. The book reveals the mistreatment of women such as the instance where Heathcliff married Isabella to take over her property. Although Heathcliff succeeded to convince Isabella and Cathy into falling in love with him, Heathcliff would physically abuse both Cathy and Isabella on a regular basis, another example of the problems of love in Wuthering Heights
