Writing a journal

Assignment Problem: During the semester, you are writing four journals. Each journal will be based on one of the complete books you are reading, and will include several entries. This is informal writing.

Each journal should be labeled with the journal number and the author's name, and the book title. For example, "Journal One - John Steinbeck's Travels with Charley."

The length for each journal is 1200 words, not counting the cover page. Although it is a journal of several pages, it is made up of separate journal entries, which should be dated. Each entry should include a quote from the book, and you are to discuss different parts of the book, not the first chapter or two.

It is suggested that you include summary, quote, and your response to the section you read. It would be wise to write in it each week. Write with clarity and provide brief context when necessary. It is a very good idea to answer the "Journalist's Six Questions" as you read: who, what, when, where, why, and how. Also, annotate your book, even if you are using post-it notes or else you won't remember material for the journal or quizzes. Include summary, paraphrase, questions you have, your likes, your dislikes, and even your emotional reactions.
