Social workers can make great advocates when we work to change systems as opposed to forcing people to fit into them. By helping schools create safe and fun environments, advocating for increased community resources, and working on policies that support individuals with these disorders and their families, we can change lives. When we understand that everyone is made in the image of God, it reminds us that advocacy is something we should be doing regardless of our profession. "So whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. For you, my master, shall act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God" (Micah 6:8-8 NIV, 2011).
