Conclusion for The American Revolution was a significant event that took place from 1775 to 1783. For many years, the American colonies were controlled by the British. The Revolution drew together the thirteen colonies, each with its own history and identity. The Revolution was spurred by growing ideological, political, and economic differences between the colonies and Great Britain following a series of taxes imposed by the British Parliament. The American Revolution held different meanings for various groups of Americans, including the Patriots, Loyalists, Native Americans, African Americans, and women. Patriots were the colonists who rebelled against British monarchial control. The revolution was a struggle for liberty and independence, "for imposing Taxes on us without our Consent" according to the Declaration of Independence (US 1776). They felt that they were paying taxes to a government where they had no representation. In the story Memoires of the Life of Boston King, a Black Preacher the author (Boston King) mentions, Jennifer 2 "Many Black colonists sought freedom by joining with the British, with estimates as high as 5,000". Loyalist were promised freedom, but they never received their freedom. The American Revolution had different impacts on the different groups of Americans. Native Americans saw the Revolution as a contest for land. To them the Revolution was a threat to their lands. The Revolution opened new opportunities in trade and manufacturing. The Revolution had an impact on the African Americans. What mattered most to the African Americans was freedom. Occom stated "So I am ready to Say, they have used me" (12-18). African Americans were often used by the British. The Revolution politicized women's roles. The Revolution also made the decisions about women's rights and roles. Women in the Revolution were often stressed, and they weren't always treated right. In The Women of the American Revolution Ellet mentions how "the following account from Eliza Wilkinson describes the stress faced by non-combatants who had to face the British army" (252-232). Women in the Revolution were important because they were cooks, maids, and part of the army, so they were stressed
