Assignment:
For this next essay assignment you will analyze literature as you did for Essays 1 & 2 but you will also use literary criticism in addition to your evidence from the primary source (the short story).
The thesis statement needs to present one main idea, your claim that responds to the prompt. Each body paragraph should support the thesis with a clear sub claim. Be sure that the connections between your body paragraphs and your thesis statement are clear. Also, be sure you use some textual evidence to from the story and from the articles of literary criticism to support your claims. Using both source materials (primary and secondary) is a requirement for this assignment.
This is a literary analysis essay, a formal college-level assignment. Please structure your paper as an essay that includes an engaging introduction, at least three well-developed body paragraphs (may be more), and a robust conclusion. Also, abide by the rules of grammar and MLA formatting. Your primary source and secondary sources should be cited accurately.
Topic:
Write an essay analyzing the symbolism in "The Red Convertible." What does the symbolism help you to better understand about the story? Does it give you a glimpse into certain themes? Does it help you to understand the characters in more depth? (These are just examples of areas you can explore in depth) Do not simply summarize or regurgitate the secondary source materials. Make sure your claim is original and use the evidence from the story and the literary criticism articles to enhance and support your ideas.
Below I have given you two additional articles on "The Red Convertible" (in addition to the Bussey article). Please note that each article has a similar title, so please don't get them confused. It's best to print them out and then highlight the author's name on each article to help you keep them straight.
