Earlier in American history, the Americans were always the good guys and the native peoples were the savages. In recent years, those labels have been reversed and the Americans have become the bad guys and the native peoples the good guys. Is there a way that we can get rid of both the good and bad guy stereotype? Without excusing any of the brutal violence, how are the actions of both the native peoples and the English setters understandable? What were their basic emotions and motivations?
