With respect to the possibility of creating a society that either has no social classes or very little separating one from another, where do American sociologists stand? Is there agreement that social classes and the resulting inequality they create are necessary and inevitable, or was Marx's prophecy that social classes will disappear in a truly communist socio-economic order?
