Part 1: The Problem

Since the COVID-19 Pandemic occurred there has been a significant increase in the use of telehealth technology. Especially after new government legislation was passed under the Cares Act that allowed for organizations to bill the government for telehealth equivalently to in person patient encounters. a growing concern as organizations grow and transform into large scale infrastructures, interoperability of all the organizations systems begin to challenge their routine operations. A company's capabilities is connected to its systems ability to cohesively operate. there is a fair amount of research available but there yet to be best practices established that organizations can use repeatedly.

Part 2: The Central Problem

As telemedicine continues to rapidly grow during pandemic times companies like Teladoc need to look at what factors need to be addressed to help pave a future where telehealth is a viable and normal practice. In order for telemedicine to continue to have an impact after Covid it must continue to adapt and change to be sustainable in the long run. Technology is a key component for long term sustainability in telemedicine and viability. Fortunately, smartphones with high quality cameras are becoming more of a standard today so the technology to support telemedicine is readily available. Access to technology in remote and rural areas is the main issue that needs to be addressed. By bridging the technological gap in these areas, telemedicine can help play a huge role in providing medical services to places that had no such access before.

The other central problem surrounding telemedicine after technology is consumer and provider engagement. In order for telemedicine to become viable and widely accepted around the world, it has to meet the needs of its consumers. In today's fast paced modern world, consumers want products that can revolve around their lifestyle and schedule. Telemedicine offers ultimate convenience and flexibility to patients. The pandemic offered a glimpse of the untapped potential that telemedicine could provide to consumers and surveys conducted in early 2020 found that "patients are overwhelmingly positive about their virtual interactions with their care providers, even when technical issues posed challenges."

Provider engagement is another critical part to making telemedicine a viable practice. Encouraging providers to utilize and promote this technology to their patients is how telemedicine can sustain long term growth in the medical industry. Providers reported that during the Covid-19 pandemic that telehealth helped improve health care of patients, improved satisfaction and improved timeliness of care. Telehealth has all the tools to pave a very bright future. The pandemic has made it clear that telemedicine can now play an essential part in delivering health care to patients.

Part 3: The Answer Method

As we begin to investigate possible solutions for the questions that may arise during our investigation, we need to explore the various methods that could provide insight to the questions we ask. One method that could be utilized to answer the complex questions that arise in telehealth is the use of bioethics. By definition, "bioethics is a subfield of ethics that explores ethical questions related to life sciences". Bioethical analysis allows individuals to make decisions when faced with new biomedical knowledge and innovation. Through the use of bioethics, individuals will be able to answer questions regarding modern dilemmas in the world of modern medicine and healthcare. According to Vardit Ravitsky, COVID-19 is making bioethics more relevant than ever.

With the constant growth and adjustments the world is experiencing to handle the current Coronavirus pandemic, telehealth remains to be a field in the healthcare industry that can take advantage and experience tremendous growth and success in the future. The rise and growth of telemedicine are directly related to rapid technological advancements.

The global health sector is gradually becoming digital and despite the few companies that made use of telemedicine in the past as demonstrated by the Teladoc Health case study. Laws and regulations have posed a difficult situation for facilities to offer digital services. There are a lot of issues surrounding telemedicine technology, but the good thing is that it is possible to review and resolve all the challenges and make the technology work in a manner that would benefit the stakeholders involved.
