Why study limitations include various types of bias

Problem: Study limitations include various types of bias, issues with generalizability, scope limitations, and technological constraints. The various types of bias include sample bias, self- report bias, and researcher bias. Sampling bias acknowledges the shortcomings of using convenience or snowball sampling methods. Those shortcomings include that officers may be employed at the same agency or in close geographic proximity. There is also a high likelihood that some of the officers will know each other and may be inclined to discuss the study with one another, potentially influencing each other's responses. The sampling method is also limited to officers who agree to participate, rendering the study void of perspectives from those who do not agree or volunteer, perspectives which may differ vastly. Self-report bias acknowledges that participants may be reluctant to openly share information or may intentionally withhold or exaggerate their responses. Some reasons that participants may provide biased responses include social acceptance, fear of stigmatization, and concerns about their perceived readiness for duty. Researcher bias occurs during the interpretation of participant statements. Participant statements could be interpreted through the lens of the researcher's experiences and thereby failing to effectively capture the essence of the participant's experience. Researcher bias will be mitigated by employing reflexivity strategies and oversight of the interview process. Need Assignment Help?
