Problem:
This study will utilize a qualitative phenomenological case study design. Its case study approach acknowledges the challenge of quantifying or watering down the unique experiences of veterans and law enforcement officers. Instead, it delves deep into the lives of a small selection of participants. Between one and three subjects will be interviewed using a semi-structured interview guide that incorporates open-ended questions. The study's goal will be to capture and interpret the lived experiences and perceptions of officers who were exposed to combat operations during the Global War on Terrorism. This design is best suited to the research question due to the distinct gap in qualitative research on this topic and the inability of 6 quantitative studies to capture lived experiences and perceptions in a genuine and humanistic manner. Each interview will begin with the participant completing the Combat Exposure Scale. The Combat Exposure Scale.
