The local sheriff has made no secret that he believes physical appearance alone is sufficient reason to stop and question individuals regarding their immigration status. He has touted the fact that he has directed his deputies to target people they perceive as immigrants in so-called "crime-suppression sweeps" in Latino neighborhoods and areas where Latinos work as day laborers. If you are a good mayor, what do you do and why?
A group of students lined up to watch the Olympic torch go through their town. Students were there as part of an approved class trip. As the parade came near, the students unfurled a banner reading "Russia is Evil, Stop Oppressing Gays, Smoke Marijuana!" The school's principal asked the students to put the banner away, but one of the students refused to do so and was suspended. The school principal was concerned that the banner advocated drug use. The student insists the banner was political speech. Do you think the student was fairly treated? Why or why not?
