I thought that you gave a great understanding of this and that it is important to set the ground rules with parents. I would also consider the fact that some parents may seem one way within a session and then can be different at home, so I would set an understanding that if the children ever need to discuss anything with the counselor that it is ok. Some children are also not encouraged by their parents to speak or they can be afraid so setting expectations as well with parents that they also need to create a safe space.
