Why defendant has a right to a public or private trial

Problem

William was arrested and charged with multiple counts of possession of child pornography as well as sexual child abuse. Through his defense attorney, William requested a "private trial" with no one in the courtroom but the persons deemed necessary for judicial procedures as determined by the trial judge.

William's request will most likely be:

Option

I. Granted because the defendant (William) has a right to a public or private trial just as je has a right to a jury or judge as the trier of facts.
II. Granted if the court feels the presence of the public could bring undue influence on the jury to find William guilty.
III. Denied because the defendant's interest in a private trial does not supersede the rights of the press and the public to be present.
IV. Granted if, as a result of the pandemic the court has ruled that all criminal trials will be private.
