Why child was brought to the er after sustaining burns

Problem: A child was brought to the ER after sustaining burns after pulling a kettle of hot soup from the kitchen stove. The patient had second- and third-degree burns to the chest and abdomen. The patient was sedated, and excisional debrided of the burn area. The burns were covered with an antibiotic cream, then sterile bandages. These bandages are changed frequently, and the burned area is carefully monitored for signs of infection. About 11% of the patient's body was burned, 4% with third-degree burns. A Social Work consult was obtained to evaluate the safety of the patient's home situation.
