1. From Star Trek, Princess Leia, or Pokemon. Why do you think this character(s) was so popular?
In other words, what was it about this character(s) that made the public embrace it? How do you explain the character(s) still being popular in 2016?
2. Define "Postmodernism" and explain how two songs of your choice (must not be from before the 1970s) embody this concept. You can choose any genre of music you want to. The two songs can be from the same genre or different genres.
3. Go online and look at a painting by Andy Warhol from 1984 called Michael Jackson 23 (white background, portrait of the musician). This painting is another example of pop art. Now look at a painting called Midgard by Anselm Kiefer from 1982. This painting is another example of neo expressionism. I want to know what you think of one of these paintings. Pick one, and looking at its color, art style, and subject matter. What do you think the artist is trying to say with this painting? What does it make you feel, if anything? Most importantly, do you like the painting?
4. What do you think has done the most effective job at sharing culture between countries in the second half of the 20th century to the present: cable television broadcasting stations from different countries, the video game industry, the film industry, Youtube, or Facebook? Try to explain using personal examples.
5. Which aspect of the Humanities (by "aspect of the humanities" I mean music, art, literature,film, television, radio, and video games) has changed the most in the 20th century? Why do you feel this way?
